What Our Guests Say
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between sports massage and deep tissue massage?
Sports massage ($180+, 90 min) is specifically designed for athletic performance — it combines deep tissue techniques with stretching, joint mobilization, and sport-specific work to target the muscles you use most. Deep tissue massage ($130+) focuses on releasing chronic muscle knots and tension throughout the body using sustained, firm pressure. Think of sports massage as goal-oriented for performance and recovery, while deep tissue is broader therapeutic work for general tension and pain.
What is neuromuscular therapy?
Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a specialized form of massage that addresses trigger points — hyperirritable spots in muscle tissue that refer pain to other areas of the body. Your therapist uses precise, sustained pressure on these points to release them, along with techniques that address nerve compression, postural distortions, and biomechanical dysfunction. NMT is particularly effective for chronic pain conditions like sciatica, tension headaches, TMJ, and repetitive strain injuries.
What does cupping and scraping do?
Cupping uses suction cups placed on the skin to lift and separate tissue layers, dramatically increasing blood flow to the area and breaking up fascial adhesions. Scraping (gua sha) uses smooth-edged tools to apply controlled pressure along muscle fibers, releasing knots and stimulating healing. Both techniques accelerate recovery, reduce inflammation, and improve range of motion. Cupping may leave temporary circular marks that typically fade within 3 to 7 days.
Do I need to be an athlete to get a sports massage?
Not at all. While sports massage is designed with athletes in mind, it benefits anyone with an active lifestyle — weekend warriors, gym-goers, hikers, gardeners, and anyone who puts physical demands on their body. It is also excellent for desk workers dealing with repetitive strain, tech neck, or postural issues from sitting all day. Your therapist will customize the session to your specific needs regardless of your fitness level.
Should I get a sports massage before or after my event?
Both, depending on your goals. Pre-event sports massage (1 to 2 days before) focuses on warming up muscles, increasing flexibility, and preparing your body for peak performance. Post-event massage (24 to 48 hours after) focuses on flushing metabolic waste, reducing soreness, and accelerating recovery. For general maintenance, schedule a session every 2 to 4 weeks during your training cycle.
Can I combine sports massage with cupping or neuromuscular therapy?
Yes. Adding cupping and scraping ($30+ add-on) to a sports or deep tissue massage is one of our most popular combinations for athletes. Neuromuscular therapy ($35+ add-on) can also be added to target specific trigger points during any massage session. Your therapist will recommend the best combination based on your pain patterns, activity level, and recovery goals.
