Which Aveda Hair Treatment Should You Add to Your Haircut?

If your hair snaps when you brush it, add Botanical Repair. If it feels like straw and drinks up product, add Nutriplenish. If the problem is your scalp, itchy, flaky, oily at the roots, or just tired, add Scalp Solutions. Those are the three Aveda treatments you can add to any haircut at Amenities, and this fall the add-on is $40 instead of $55.
Here is how to tell which one you need, what happens in the chair, and what to use at home so the result lasts more than a week.
The three treatments, in plain terms
Every one of these takes about fifteen extra minutes at the shampoo bowl, applied by your stylist before your cut and blow-dry. They are not the same product in three bottles. Each one is built for a different problem.
- Botanical Repair: for damage. Aveda's bond-building treatment. Color, heat, and bleach break the bonds inside the hair shaft, which is why damaged hair stretches, snaps, and will not hold a style. Botanical Repair rebuilds those bonds with a plant-derived molecule instead of coating the hair with silicone. You feel it in the first brush-through: less snapping, more spring. Best for color-treated, highlighted, heat-styled, or chemically straightened hair.
- Nutriplenish: for dryness. A deep hydration treatment built on pomegranate, mango butter, and organic coconut oil. Dry hair is not the same as damaged hair. Dry hair is dull, frizzy in humidity, and rough at the ends; it may be perfectly strong. Nutriplenish puts moisture back and seals it in. Best for coarse, curly, or naturally dry hair, and for anyone coming out of a Fresno summer.
- Scalp Solutions: for the scalp. An exfoliating treatment that lifts product buildup, dead skin, and excess oil off the scalp and rebalances it. Healthy hair starts here; a clogged, irritated scalp grows slower, weaker hair. Best for flakes, itch, oily roots by mid-afternoon, or hair that feels heavy no matter how often you wash it.
How to tell which one you need
Two quick tests you can do in the bathroom mirror. Wet a strand and stretch it gently. If it stretches a lot and does not bounce back, or snaps, that is damage: Botanical Repair. If it feels rough and looks dull but holds its shape, that is dryness: Nutriplenish. Then part your hair and look at the scalp under good light. Flakes, redness, or a shiny film at the roots point to Scalp Solutions.
A lot of guests need two of these, and that is fine. Damaged hair is often dry too. Your stylist will usually start with the one that fixes the bigger problem and switch on the next visit. If you are not sure, the hair quiz asks the same questions we ask in the chair and emails you a routine in about two minutes.
What happens in the chair
You are shampooed as usual, then the treatment goes on at the bowl. Botanical Repair and Nutriplenish are worked through the hair and left to process; Scalp Solutions is massaged into the scalp, which most people say is the best part of the appointment. After it rinses, your stylist moves straight into the cut and blow-dry. The whole thing adds about fifteen minutes to a haircut appointment. You do not need to book anything separately: just ask for the treatment when you book or when you sit down.
What it costs
Added to any haircut this fall, each treatment is $40 instead of $55. The haircut is at its regular price. There is no set end date on the offer, and it will not last the season, so see the fall specials and book while it is on.
If you want the treatment on its own, with a blow-dry, the standalone services are Botanical Treatment with Blow-Dry, $110 to $130+, Nutriplenish Pro Hydrating, $110 to $140+, and Scalp Solutions Exfoliating, $110 to $140+. For a scalp that needs more than exfoliation, ask about our Rest and Recovery Scalp Treatment, $165+, or the Head Spa.
Why this matters more in Fresno
Our water is hard, our summers run past a hundred degrees, and most of us are outside in it. Hard water leaves mineral buildup on the hair and scalp that makes hair feel coated and dull no matter how good your shampoo is, which is one reason Scalp Solutions gets booked so often here. Heat and sun pull moisture out of the ends, so hair that was fine in April feels like straw by September. That is the Nutriplenish crowd. And color-treated hair that has spent a summer at the pool has usually lost enough bonds that Botanical Repair is the right first move before any fall color.
If you only add one treatment a year, make it the one in early fall. It undoes the summer before the holidays.
Keeping it going at home
A salon treatment resets the hair. What you use between visits decides how long the reset holds. Match the line to the treatment.
- After Botanical Repair: Botanical Repair Strengthening Shampoo and Strengthening Conditioner, plus the Bond-Building Styling Creme before heat. Once a week, the Intensive Strengthening Masque, Light for fine hair or Rich for coarse.
- After Nutriplenish: Nutriplenish Shampoo and Conditioner in Light Moisture for fine or wavy hair, Deep Moisture for coarse or curly. The Leave-In Conditioner on damp hair every wash, and the Multi-Use Hair Oil on the ends when they look thirsty.
- After Scalp Solutions: Scalp Solutions Balancing Shampoo and Replenishing Conditioner, and the Overnight Scalp Renewal Serum a few nights a week. The Refreshing Protective Mist is the one to keep in your bag through a Fresno summer.
- Every product above is on our shelves, and on Retail Mondays it is 10% off.
Questions we hear at the desk
How long does an Aveda treatment last?
About three to four weeks with the matching home care, which is why most guests add one to every haircut. Without the matching shampoo and conditioner, expect a week or two before the hair drifts back toward where it started.
Can I add a treatment to a color appointment instead of a haircut?
Yes. Botanical Repair in particular is a good idea the same day as highlights or balayage, because lightening is what breaks the bonds the treatment rebuilds. Ask for it when you book. The $40 fall price applies to treatments added to a haircut; with color, your stylist will quote the add-on.
Is Scalp Solutions the same as a Head Spa?
No. Scalp Solutions is a fifteen-minute exfoliating treatment at the bowl. The Head Spa is a longer, standalone scalp experience with massage and steam. If your scalp needs a reset, start with Scalp Solutions; if you want the full ritual, book the Head Spa.
Which treatment is best for curly hair?
Usually Nutriplenish, because curls are naturally drier than straight hair and hydration is what gives them definition. If your curls have been colored or heat-straightened and now stretch or snap, start with Botanical Repair instead.
Book a haircut and tell us which treatment you want, or let your stylist pick when you sit down.
